So, as I alluded to before, I’m contemplating a complete career change from the area I’ve been in for the past almost six years. I would move from non-profit fundraising and event planning to nursing. I am a rather big science nerd (I’ve always loved my science classes, even those I didn’t do well in), and would relish the opportunity to take more. I guess my first chance to see how I do in it all will be in a microbiology class at Cal State Los Angeles (a school no one knows about – honestly!). I have to scrape together the money for the class, but I think that’s do-able. My unemployment form asks if I have started any schooling, so I have to find out about that – like if one class makes me ineligible for unemployment… but, I’m on that search.
In addition to all of that (this train of thought has been going on for almost 8 months so far), I’m contemplating seminary. As in getting a Masters in Divinity. Columbia University in NYC has a seminary attached to it, and also has a fabulous nursing program – it would be interesting to do a combo Masters, but not sure if that craziness could be handled. I have been trying to discern what is next for me, in life, and haven’t totally been able to do it. The only thing that has felt even remotely firm is the nursing thing (but I get the feeling I could be ignoring things!). I get excited when I talk about the whole microbiology class that I am going to take for spring quarter, so that’s what’s on my plate for short-order.
I am headed off to sleep, but before I go, I emailed someone I know not very well and told her that I was interested in both seminary and nursing. She promptly emailed back with combo degree schools: Harvard, Yale and Columbia. Piece of cake, eh?
